Project Title: K-6 Students Collaborate with Local Artists on Garland Mural
Year awarded: 2021, Round 1

Garfield APPLE is a non-profit, 501(c)(3), organization operated by the parents of students in Spokane Public Schools. The program is housed within Garfield Elementary but receives no extra funding from the school district. With SAGA support, Garfield APPLE’s K-6 students’ will be collaborating with local, professional artists, Susan Webber and Daniel Lopez, on a new Garland Street mural.

The purpose of this project is to inspire young children in our community to notice and appreciate the art that lives all around them during a time when they have been deprived of connection, collaboration, and community. It will give them the artistic voice and skills they need to publish an original, outdoor mural, imprinting their voice onto Spokane through a collaborative mural project.
