Grantee: Sean Finley, This Had Better Be Good Films

Project Title: We Live in Water
Year awarded: 2021, Round 2

SAGA is excited to support Sean Finley in the creation of his new film, We Live in Water. Finley is a writer and director working and living in Spokane. Over the past decade, he has collaborated with writers, artists, musicians and filmmakers in the Spokane area to create music videos, short films, and documentaries. His previous work includes music videos for local acts such as Water Monster, Lavoy, and The Marshall McLean Band.

We Live in Water is a story about toxic masculinity, the culture that allows it and the power it has to destroy generations. Set in rural Idaho and the inland northwest, a son searches for clues to his father’s disappearance decades earlier. It’s a story about how the events in our past are never far removed from our present day. Jess Walter has given his permission to adapt his short story to film. This story contains themes of free will and fate, as well as a glimmer of hope that we can make better decisions in the future.
