Grantee: Power 2 The Poetry

Project Title: The Express. Expose. Ignite! Feast Youth Workshop Series
Year awarded: 2026, Round 2

Bethany “B.Lyte” Montgomery, founder of Power 2 The Poetry, will lead a seven-week creative writing and spoken word workshop series for a cohort of 20 immigrant and refugee youth, held Tuesdays from August 4 through September 15, 2026, at Feast World Kitchen. Hailing from Feast’s roster of 75 current and former youth interns, students in this program are from families who arrived in Spokane from Afghanistan, Syria, Congo, Sudan, and Mexico. The Express. Expose. Ignite! Feast Youth Workshop Series curriculum includes individual 30-minute coaching sessions focusing on foundational writing practice, memory, social-witness poetry, and stage presence. Youth participants will also be given an opportunity to show their original work publicly in a live public performance on September 20, 2026, at Feast World Kitchen’s annual FeastFest. SAGA funding will cover Montgomery’s fee as the curriculum designer and instructor, compensation for Feast World Kitchen’s immigrant and refugee chefs, completion incentives for participating youth, and workshop supplies.
