Project Title: "Low Profile:": Civic Dialogue Through Comedy
Year awarded: 2026, Round 2

“Developing ‘Low Profile'” is a community-focused workshop series exploring human connections in our digital age, while inviting Spokane audiences to help shape a new comedy. As a comedy play about dating, “Low Profile” investigates the terrifyingly well-intentioned erosion of human agency in a satirical interrogation of our modern obsession with data-driven decision-making. Workshop performances of “Low Profile” are planned for January through February 2027, and Rickett will invite the Artistic Directors from three of Spokane’s theaters to attend, providing a risk-free “first look” at a near-production-ready script and increasing the likelihood that “Low Profile” will be featured in a future season on a Spokane mainstage.

By moving the script from the page to a public setting, Craig is inviting the community to participate in the final stage of the creative process through post-play talkbacks and survey responses. These performances will be held in at least two Spokane neighborhoods using a Pay-What-You-Can model, physically meeting the community where they are and transforming audience members from mere ticket-buyers into workshop collaborators. Staging the workshops in smaller independent venues provides critical rental revenue to the intimate “black box” spaces that are the lifeblood of the city’s cultural landscape.
