Grantee: Blue Door Theatre

Project Title: Improv League: Empowering High School Students through Improv Education
Year awarded: 2023, Round 3

The Blue Door Theatre is an non-profit improv theatre located in the Garland District. For almost thirty years, The Blue Door Theatre has been a staple in the Spokane performance community. Recently, they opened the Spokane School of Improv, which provides low cost improv classes to people of all ages. Now, they are expanding with a new program in Spokane area high schools, Improv League.

Already in the beginning stages, Improv League is a year-long transformative program taught by local, professional improv faculty and offered for free to Spokane area high school students. Running through June 2024, it will consist of weekly workshops after school and a once-a-month all-area improv meetup. Final shows will also take place in the schools, with the dates based on the school calendar and student availability.

SAGA funding will contribute to compensating the professional improv faculty teaching the classes, as well as contribute to a portion of marketing and outreach.
