ABOUT THE CURATOR

Posie Kalin is an advocate for the arts and community engagement rooted in Spokane. With a Master of Fine Arts degree from Portland State University and over a decade of experience, Kalin is dedicated to fostering connections within the creative community and beyond. She is passionate about supporting pathways for historically underserved youth and emerging talent, striving to create equitable opportunities through collaboration and innovation. Outside of work, Kalin enjoys exploring Spokane’s vibrant arts scene, spending time with her family, and finding inspiration in nature. She is excited to build on Spark Central’s mission of inspiring curiosity and imagination across the community.

EXHIBITION STATEMENT

The exhibition greatly from a desire to amplify the voices of artists with disabilities and to create a platform that centers their creativity, agency, and artistic vision. My work in arts leadership has consistently focused on access, creative equity, and expanding who is seen, supported, and celebrated within cultural spaces. Personal Landscapes is deeply informed by community collaboration. Advocates and partners across the Inland Northwest – particularly those working closely with artists with disabilities – have helped shape this exhibition into what is is today. Organized by Spark Central in partnership with Rolf Goetzinger, SPS HS, The Hive, The Arc of Spokane, Side by Side, Project ID, and additional community organizations, this annual regional exhibition brings together artists who identify as having disabilities to share the stories, perspectives, and lived experiences that shape their creative worlds. By centering each artist’s voice, Personal Landscapes highlights the many ways art fosters connection, visibility, and belonging. The exhibition invites viewers to consider how creativity reflects individual journeys while also weaving us more closely together as a community.
