Applications are now being accepted for 2022 Tourism Promotion Area (TPA) funding. Funds totaling $50,000 are available to businesses in Spokane County. The money will be used to market events that will help promote tourism.

The funding comes through the support of Spokane County lodging businesses. For every occupied room night, guests are assessed a four-dollar per room, per night fee that is returned to Spokane County for tourism promotion. The revenue collected from this assessment must be used for activities and events that are designed to increase tourism promotion including meetings and conventions and sports tournaments in the Spokane Metropolitan Area.

The process is straightforward. All interested organizations that may apply should submit their application electronically to Visit Spokane. The applications are then submitted for review by a panel of hoteliers and then the TPA Commissioners convene a meeting in December where applicants present a project plan to the Spokane Hotel and Motel Commission. Board members make their final recommendations, which are then forwarded to the Spokane County Commissioners. Commissioners can either accept or reject the recommendations.

Applications must meet a list of criteria, including:

  •         A qualified budget or marketing plan
  •         Proven ability to generate hotel-motel room nights
  •         Available TPA resources
  •         The event must take place between January 2022 and December 2022

Funds may not be allocated for capital expenses and will be used for the marketing of approved projects set forth in the approved contract.

The Spokane Hotel and Motel Commission will be accepting applications until: Monday, November 29, 2021

First-time applicants are required to attend an orientation session on Thursday, November 11 at 3:00 pm at the DoubleTree by Hilton. The session is recommended for previous applicants.
