From Western States Center:
Western States Center’s Culture Lab is launching a seven-month, paid fellowship running from March through September 2026 for independent venue owners, operators, and cultural organizers across the Pacific Northwest and Mountain States. Independent venues are more than stages—they are gathering places where communities connect across difference, where art and expression help counter fear and division. In a moment of rising political tension and increasing pressure on cultural spaces, this fellowship supports the people who keep those spaces open, safe, and welcoming. Fellows will strengthen their understanding of regional and national trends affecting venues, develop tools for navigating organized bigotry and political interference, and build practices that deepen belonging and community resilience.
The fellowship includes monthly virtual cohort meetings, individualized project development, peer learning, and an in-person gathering at the NIVA Conference in Minneapolis. Fellows will receive training and resources on topics such as venue safety and preparedness, responding to harassment and extremist activity, building relationships across identity and difference, and supporting staff and artists during politically charged moments. Participants commit roughly 10 hours per month and receive a stipend for their participation. Priority consideration is given to applicants in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Alaska, but others working in the region’s music ecosystem are welcome to apply.
$6750 stipend, plus limited financial project support
