Opportunity: Hooptown USA Basketball Court Murals

Aritistic Discipline: Visual

Spokane Arts and Hooptown USA are seeking individual artists or artist teams to submit proposals for new murals to be installed on three outdoor basketball courts in Spokane, WA. Murals will be installed on basketball courts in Peaceful ValleyChief Garry Park, and Thorton Murphy Park.

We are excited to be bringing three new unique murals to parks throughout Spokane. These highly visible and interactive locations will be fun additions to the public art in Spokane, to be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. A celebration of the stength of both our local arts and sports communities, these murals are part of a larger Hooptown USA project revitalizing courts throughout the region, with support from MultiCare.

Three different artists or artist teams will be selected for these projects. Artists are invited to submit up to three designs, and may select to have their designs considered for one, two, or all three of the court projects.

Deadline for submissions is Thursday, April 23 at 11:59 p.m. The stipend will be awarded in the amount of $8,500 for each court mural.

Artists are invited, but not required, to consider individual neighborhood characteristics for individual court location designs. Artists are encouraged to keep in mind that these will all be active, functional basketball courts. Applicants MUST submit through the application here and must use the provided templates to create your proposal artwork. (Templates available here as PDF or PNG files.) Please look at these examples of outdoor basketball court murals for an idea of the range of designs and styles that can be done for these projects. These are just examples of similar projects installed in other locations. We’re looking for original, unique, and diverse artwork for these projects.
