Opportunity: Avista Metro Substation Wall Panels

Aritistic Discipline: Visual

Avista Corporation and Spokane Arts desire to purchase two (2) original two-dimensional art designs (“Designs”) to be developed into large scale digital artworks for fabrication on wall panels for Avista’s new Metro substation, located on the 700 block of West Third Avenue between Post Street and Wall Street.  The Designs will be installed on two (2) chamfered corners of the building facing the arterial street.

Artists will be selected on the basis of portfolio and, with four (4) artists selected as semi-finalists, to develop final Designs for the 12’x18’ and 12’x22’ installations.  The final Designs will be produced digitally on aluminum composite material panels.  A stipend of $1,000 will paid to each of the four (4) semi-finalists for their Designs; and the two (2) finalists (“Finalists”) will be paid an additional $9,000 for the Designs that will be used on the wall panels.

This opportunity is open to artists residing in Washington state in the greater Spokane area (encompassing Spokane and the area within a 40-mile radius).  Artists who are traditionally underrepresented in public art are strongly encouraged to apply, including Indigenous artists and artists of color.

The location is highly visible to a broad range of Spokane residents and visitors.  The intent is to create a uplifting and positive images representing the Spokane region. The Designs could be Spokane-area themed or relate to the new City motto “we all belong.”
