Grantee: Spokane Aerial Performance Arts

Project Title: Youth Stilt Walking Program
Year awarded: 2022, Round 3

Since August 2011, Spokane Aerial Performance Arts has provided local instruction in the circus arts, including aerial silks, aerial hoop, static trapeze and stilt walking for both children and adults. In summer 2022, Spokane Aerial Performance Arts held two highly successful and popular stilt walking camps. However, the stilt equipment proved to not hold up to extended use, a safety hazard which limited the stilt-walking instruction Spokane Aerial hoped to provide after the stilt-walking summer camps.

With SAGA funding, Spokane Aerial Performance Arts will purchase 10 sets of stilts and begin a permanent stilt walking program for young performers at Spokane Aerial. The new equipment will allow Spokane Aerial to incorporate a stilt troupe into their annual performances, including the December 2022 Cookie Party and Student Showcase at Spokane Aerial, 2023 Cheney Mayfest, 2023 Medical Lake Founder’s Day, 2023 Spokane
Aerial Play and Show, and 2022 and 2023 Valleyfest, and the 2023 Lilac Parade.
