Project Title: Emerging Spokane Artists Compilation Album
Year awarded: 2021, Round 3

Lucas Brookbank Brown is a local singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. He has many studio recordings, has written, performed, and produced an EP titled Everything Means Something Out Here, and has released several singles. He shares co-producer credits on Jenny Jahlee’s 2018 debut album, Be You, and performed on Jay Barron’s debut LP The Ends (2020). Locally, Brown runs the open mic might at the Red Room Lounge, which is where he met and began working on musical projects with several very talented, emerging artists.

Brown is receiving support from SAGA to record and produce of a compilation album featuring original songs from four local individual emerging artists. This work will focus on providing a platform for original music written and performed by female and BIPOC artists in Spokane’s growing music scene. This project has two goals: First, to provide access to recording studio time, and knowledge of the recording and release processes. And secondly, to inspire further connection and collaboration among musicians, songwriters, and their audiences in our community. An additional film component will let viewers witness these processes and the vibrancy of Spokane’s music scene.

Brown will select the four artists and help them select two songs each. He will then work with each artist on their arrangements and begin rehearsals with the backing band. The recording sessions will be completed by Spring 2022. with a tentative release date set for June 2022.
