With support from SAGA, The Hot Club of Spokane, in partnership with Woodside Swing Spokane, will present the Lilac City Stomp on October 24, 2026. This event is a full-day celebration of swing dance and live jazz in the historic Marie Antoinette Ballroom at the Davenport Hotel featuring three dance workshops, a 90-minute matinee featuring live jazz by Zonky Jazz Band, a dance performance by Woodside Swing’s advanced dancers, and open dancing for all attendees. Lilac City Stomp will culminate in a ticketed evening showcase featuring three sets of live music, dance performances, and open dancing. Nationally recognized artists Jonathan Doyle, Lauryn Gould, and Undre Reed will be in attendance to mentor local dance instructors and musicians throughout both rehearsal and event performances.
Lilac City Stomp continues nearly two decades of the Hot Club of Spokane’s history producing live jazz and swing music in the Inland Northwest, beginning with founder Garrin Hertel’s 2006 Think Swing New Orleans Jazz Festival and continuing through years of collaboration with Woodside Swing and its predecessor organizations. Lilac City Stomp marks the two organizations’ first large-scale collaborative event since the pandemic, with mentorship from Jonathan Doyle, Lauryn Gould, and Undre Reed expected to raise the technical and interest level of dance and music in Spokane for years to come. Proceeds from evening ticket sales will be banked as seed funding to help make Lilac City Stomp an annual tradition.
