Project Title: Drey Davis Memorial Mural
Year awarded: 2026, Round 1

The family of the late musician and educator, Drey Davis is organizing a community-based project to commission and install a large-scale mural honoring Davis and the communities he served. The mural is scheduled for completion in July 2026 in celebration of what would have been Davis’s 32nd birthday. The mural, will be painted by local hyperrealist artist Miles Toland, and will be located on a donated wall at a site closely tied to Spokane’s music community and Davis’s performance history. SAGA funding will support artist compensation and materials, while additional support—including donated paint, fundraising efforts, and in-kind contributions—demonstrates strong grassroots backing. Painting is expected to take place from April through June and the public unveiling planned for July 11, 2026.

The mural serves as a lasting tribute to Davis’s impact as a performer, teacher, and mentor across the region. Known for his work with local bands, national artists, and students at Northwest Christian School and Bartell’s Music Academy, Davis left a legacy that continues to be recognized through community efforts, including a City of Spokane proclamation naming July 14, 2024 “Drey Day.” His influence is reflected in ongoing tributes from students and peers, from award-winning performances dedicated in his honor to school-led memorial initiatives. This project builds on that momentum, creating a permanent visual landmark that celebrates his life while inspiring future generations of musicians and students in Spokane.
