Artist: Kathryn Alexander, MAShe/Her/Hers

Artistic Discipline: Visual
Location: Spokane, WA

Kathryn Alexander was born in Michigan in 1942 and has been an active resident of Spokane since 2014 serving as chair of her neighborhood council and representative to the Community Assembly. A photographer for over 40 years she began showing her work in 2018.
Alexander has a strong background in the textile arts, owning one of the first weaving and spinning stores in the country; she attended the California College of the Arts in 1972-1973 and studied under Trudy Guremonprez. Her interest in texture and color can still be seen in her photography.
Alexander was delighted to leave the slow process of weaving for the much quicker results of photography. Alexander’s spiritual background, including 45 years of meditation, is foundational for her focus on capturing the essence of things in her photography. Her work is available on textiles as well as prints
Alexander is inspired by Edward Weston, Imogen Cunningham and the Group f/64. She was privileged to hold original Weston photographs and to meet Cunningham in person. Alexander has shown at the Barili Cellars Tasting room, Barrister Winery, the Avenue West Art Gallery, and Tsuga Northwest Art Gallery. She is a member of MONARCH Arts and the Spokane Photographers Club.
