Sand and Space: Iva HaasOpening reception: Tuesday, Feb. 21, 5-6 p.m., Lied Center for the Visual ArtsArtist’s lecture: Tuesday, Feb. 21, 6-7 p.m., Lied Art Center, Room 102 The Whitworth University Art Department and the university’s Bryan Oliver Gallery are proud to present recent work from Iva Haas, a sculptural ceramic artist who was raised in Belgrade, Serbia.
February 7 – March 24, 2023Artist statement: “Concrete war monuments, decaying military hospitals, tall yellow grass, all coalesce as a combined caricature that acquires a new peculiar personality. I look to my past, my peoples’ past and try to create an object that memorializes what is still in decay. Childhood memories resonate with my creativity into fantastical realities. Nothing and no one goes unnoticed, and nothing escapes my sketchbook. Feelings of pleasure, excitement, and fear urge me to filter through past experiences and bring them to life. Sculptures and drawings are pure pleasure combined with absurdity and represent me as much as what I love and repel.”
Gallery hours: Monday-Friday from 10:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Closed on official university holidays. For more information, call 509-777-3258 or email WUArt@whitworth.edu.
