Opportunity: Call for Project Assistant — Voice of the River

Aritistic Discipline: Cultural, Dance

Dance Ecology is looking for an assistant for event planning and coordination for a performance and community engagement project taking place between now and June. The start date is April 1. This is a 3-month assistantship (ending June 13 or 20) some work may be available after June 20. 

The project is a site-specific dance performance for the Voice of the River project, the Spokane/ Columbia water-themed arts submission for the Global Water Dances project. This year’s theme relates to current environmental issues with the Spokane and Columbia Rivers. Assistant will need to participate in the community dance piece at the event though no dance background is required. Assist will also be willing to educate themselves about environmental issues the project is working on and attend most major project meetings (1 – 2 per/week). Requires in-person work as well as online. The Assistant will help with the following: 

  • Rehearsal and site arrangements, event coordination, costumes, media releases, media contacts, video, graphics, and social media.
  • Scheduling meetings, tracking project schedule, and reminders.
  • Liaisoning with tribes, tribal organizations, environmental groups, and arts groups.

Skills:  event planning, social media/marketing, arts events/promotions,  science communication/journalism, visual design, film/video editing, project management, dance/choreography  Background: environmental/natural science, embodiment-related fields, dance (esp. cultural, world, modern dance, contact improv), literary arts, performing arts. Prefer demonstrated experience in environmental advocacy, social justice, non-profits, community organizing, working on environmental justice projects. The project aims to promote diverse voices – encourage artists of color to apply. 

Hours: 4/1 – 5/15  ( 7 – 10 hours/week); 5/15 – 6/20  (10 – 15 hours/week). Hours estimated/negotiable.
