Music In Manito in July 2023 features a program Artistic Director Zuill Bailey planned to begin with the exciting 2023 Grammy-Winning Attacca String Quartet performing the first half of the program. For the second half, the YouTube sensation Simply Three with covers from Adele, Coldplay, Gershwin, and more takes the stage. Both evenings offer the same program.
August 24 will wrap up the great season with Soul Proprietor, a high-energy, 10-piece “Urban Soul” group playing Blues, Funk, Motown, R&B and Classic Rock. It features outstanding vocalists Patrice Thompson-Rose and Jerry Lee Raines, a stellar 4-piece horn section, and a super-funky rhythm section.
Mardi Gras Growlers play feel good New Orleans style music, as you would expect from Fats Domino, Dinah Washington, Preservation Hall Jazz Band and many more. It is made up of six talented local musicians, including Lady Growler Abby Crawford.
Features Stagecoach West, a dance band that has been playing throughout the Northwest and into Canada for over 50 years. The Inlander calls them “The most enduring and endearing band in the Inland Northwest.”
On August 3, Free Whiskey, a Celtic folk rock band, will play traditional with a twist. Vintage rock and Celtic ballads are intertwined and mesh together as the six members “make magic” together.
On July 27, Tango Volcado will return with classic tangos, Nuevo tangos and their own tango arrangements of pop songs. It is a quartet of musicians who play multiple instruments including the viola and violin, accordion, guitar, piano and bass.
July 20, features Villa Blues ’N Jazz. Local noted vocalist Heather Villa brought together four Spokane jazz musicians to form this Jazz and Blues group playing music influences of the group include Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, John Lee Hooker, BB King and Stevie Wonder.
On July 13, Nu Jack City, will play Motown, rhythm and blues as well as some current popular tunes. The seven-piece ensemble that has been playing 20 years bills itself as a high-energy party band.
The 2023 season kicks off on July 6 with the return of the popular 133rd Washington Army National Guard Band. In addition to the Full Metal Racket Rock Band, it will feature the General’s 7 Traditional Jazz Band and the Brass Patriots Band.
You are invited to the fifth Poetry to Music event sponsored by the Cantable chapter of the Spokane Symphony Associates. You will enjoy new music as well as light refreshments in an interesting and historic venue. Our guest artist will be music students from Eastern Washington university. This year’s composition students who study with Dr. Jonathan Middleton have written art songs and choral works for this Poetry to Music event, Poems in Sound. They will be joined by other musicians to perform these new pieces for you. We believe you will be inspired by their creativity and the stories behind their compositions.
The GLOW Children Early Learning Center is a non-profit childcare center established in 2019 to serve children infant through 12 years old. The mission of GLOW Children is to provide a safe and healthy early education program primarily for children whose parents attend Lumen High School. Their mission is also to address the important issues of poverty, trauma and equity particularly within vulnerable populations, such as teenaged parents.
Founded in 1987, the Spokane Area Youth Choirs (SAYChoirs) has had an impact on the artistic culture of Spokane for many years. In August 2022, the SAYChoirs held a summer choir camp for grades 2nd through 6th. This three day experience was attended by 40 students, recruited primarily through social media, and was free to all who registered. As the first camp since COVID-19, the experience gave the organization confidence that not only is this experience needed and valued, but hinted at the need to expand the offerings to serve more students.
