Grantee: Eastern Washington University Department of Design

Project Title: The Risograph Print Residency of Spokane
Year awarded: 2023, Round 2

Eastern Washington University’s Department of Design recently acquired a Risograph printer. The printer can be used to create vivid, high-volume digital duplicates and is the first of its kind in the local university system and Inland Northwest. To maximize the learning opportunities, public engagement, and accessibility around this unusual resource, EWU’s Design Department has been awarded a SAGA grant to pilot university-based risograph residencies. These residencies will help advance the practices of local and regional artists in collaboration with students and the Spokane community.

The Risograph Print Residency of Spokane will be housed in the Catalyst building downtown. The program aims to support and promote both emerging and established artists based in the Inland Northwest by providing access to Risograph training, printing equipment, and facilities. The project’s goals are to democratize access to Risograph printing, foster an artist community, promote Risograph as an artistic medium, showcase regional artists, and raise visibility for Eastern Washington University, the Design Department, and the local community.
