Grantee: My Turn Theater

Project Title: Guys and Dolls
Year awarded: 2022, Round 1

After success in Idaho, the founders of Out of the Shadows Theater (established in 2016 in Coeur d’Alene) are launching a new theater company for disabled actors in Spokane: My Turn Theater. A 501(c)3 nonprofit, My Turn Theater will provide support and performance opportunities for actors with special needs, with the goal of producing a major musical production each year.

With all physical and developmental disabilities recognized, the actors will be accompanied on stage with a partner who provides support, encouragement and friendship. At Out of The Shadows Theater, these companions have returned year after year and frequently bonds are formed which continue even after the final curtain.

With support from SAGA, My Turn Theater will produce their first musical production in Spokane. The debut performance, Guys and Dolls. Guys and Dolls opens at the Bing Crosby Theater on Friday September 9 at 7:30 p.m., with shows on Saturday September 10 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday September 11 at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased on the My Turn website.
