Vytal Movement Dance (VMD) is Spokane’s only professional dance company, founded in the summer of 2016. The troupe is composed of highly trained dancers, most of whom connected via community adult dance classes taught by Vincas Greene, VMD’s director. VMD’s was formed to develop a professional quality modern dance presence for the regional audience in the Inland Northwest, and to provide performance opportunities for the talented dancers, who call this region home.
With SAGA support, Vytal Movement Dance will present a dance concert titled, Together We Dance, that celebrates our way back together as community. The work will be performed three times in the Spring of 2022 in a Spokane-based theater and include two dances by director Vincas Greene, a new dance by dancer/choreographer Lauren Hovik, a video dance created with Stage Left Theater with director Juan Mas, and a dance presented by guest company Quiero Flamenco by choreographer Monica Mota Romberg. These dances will explore isolation and our cautious joy at coming back together in an artform that celebrates life in community.
One of the goals of the concert is to include community members that normally do not have access to dance theater events. The final performance will be a free Saturday matinee in a lecture/demonstration format for an underserved K-12 audience and their family members.
