Opportunity: RFP: Arts for Sinto Commons Apartments

PROJECT
Community Frameworks is seeking an artist(s) to create site specific original artworks to beautify the walls and community spaces of Sinto Commons Apartments. Sinto Commons Apartments is a newly planned four-story, 47-unit affordable housing building located one mile north from downtown in the Emerson Garfield Neighborhood, located at 509 W. Sinto Ave. Spokane, WA 99201.

INTENT
The vision for this project is to beautify the walls and spaces of Sinto Commons apartments with exceptional quality and enduring art located in prominent public spaces within the site. We aim to enhance residents experience and quality of life through art. The project has twelve potential locations throughout the building for art pieces and murals. The spaces are the following:

Community Room
• South wall between windows
• East wall

1st Floor Entry
• The 1st floor staircase the wall facing the elevator.
• Two story walls going up to second floor.

1ST Floor Corridor
• North wall

2nd Floor entry
• Two walls on the side of the vestibule entry.
• Corridor

3rd & 4th floor
• Game room
• Reading room
• Walls facing elevator
• Corridors

The project work in two phases. Phase 1 will include the Community Room, 1st and 2nd floor. Phase 2 includes the 3rd and 4th floor.

PROGRAM PILLARS
The Sinto arts project is built upon community belonging and creativity. We have identified the following pillars that can be considered as topics and inspiration for the project. The pillars are identified as:
CULTURE
DIVERSITY
FAMILY
NATURE
TRIBAL HISTORY
RIVER
HOME

In developing art concepts, artists are encouraged to explore these pillars, various art mediums, incorporate one or more of the pillars, and explore contextual relevance for individual locations.

Artists interested in this project must prepare and submit the following:

• Letter of interest, no more than one page length, which explains your interest in the project. Please include your name and contact information.

• An artist resume/portfolio with contact information and accomplishments. If submitting as a team, please submit a resume for each team member.

• A budget for the proposed mural including which materials/mediums will be used.

AWARD
A maximum of $10,000 for Phase 1, and $8,000 for Phase 2 Commission for the artist(s) selected to realize their work.
