The Center for Children’s Book Arts (CCBA) aims to provide a resource for Spokane families of all socio-economic backgrounds to learn about and appreciate the art of physical texts, including the ages-old processes used to create them. The Children’s Center for Book Arts is opening a physical bookstore and maker-space in April, where it will provide workshop programming in book-making, taught by local artists.
CCBA received its non-profit status in November 2021. Their mission is to create a love for high-quality literary arts and to inspire their integration into the homes of Spokane families. They hope to accomplish this with both arms of their organization: the bookshop that will bring beautifully made, high-quality texts to the community, available through regular purchase, discounted membership programs, and scholarship-memberships to the maker-space for low-income families.
With SAGA Support, CCBA will be able to make book-arts related workshops radically accessible for Spokane families of limited means by providing season-long scholarships (April through December 2022) for as many as half of all workshop attendees, fostering another, broader generation of interdisciplinary artists in our region.
