Grantee: Spokane Interactive Arts / Laboratory

Project Title: Laboratory's Summer Session: Projects Focused on Our Region
Year awarded: 2018, Round 1

Spokane Interactive Arts is a local nonprofit which runs “Laboratory,” an artist residency program in downtown Spokane. Laboratory brings in interactive artists from all over the world for one to three months, so they can make and show work and connect with local Spokane creatives and businesses.

In its first three years of operation, Laboratory has brought in more than 60 artists, from more than a dozen countries.  “Most excitingly,” says Alan Chatham of Laboratory, “we have brought a huge diversity of artistic voices into our community and have helped fuel Spokane’s creative environment.”

WITH SAGA’S SUPPORT…

Laboratory will be hosting eight new residents in Spokane from June to August 2018. Each participating artist receives room and board and a small stipend during their stay. Each resident will also host a public show of their work at the end of their residency. This summer will bring two local artists together with artists from around the world who are interested in different elements of our region—terrain, history, architecture—that will be explored in local contexts.
