Grantee: Spokane Civic Theatre

Project Title: Spokane Civic Theatre Education Summer 2025
Year awarded: 2025, Round 2

Spokane Civic Theatre’s Summer @ Civic 2025 offers more than 170 students and performers an inspiring, inclusive opportunity to engage with the theatre arts through classes, workshops, and full-scale productions. Running from July 7 through August 18, the program features 12 week-long classes, eight element-focused workshops for ages 14–22, and two major productions, including a Studio Theatre play for ages 8–14 and, for the first time, a fully produced Main Stage musical for ages 14–22. With no production participation fees and generous financial assistance available, this program emphasizes accessibility, personal growth, and skill-building across all levels of experience.

SAGA funding will help cover stipends for 55 independent teaching artists, coordinators, and production team members, ensuring fair compensation while supporting the development of young artists and audiences. Led by a team of highly qualified instructors, including Bonni Dichone, Jake Schaefer, Elise Forier Edie, and others, Summer @ Civic 2025 reinforces Spokane Civic Theatre’s mission to cultivate creativity, confidence, collaboration, and community through theatre education. Last summer, nearly 40% of students received scholarship support, underscoring the ongoing need to keep the arts accessible for all.
