The Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC) Fine Art Department has received SAGA support to help create a fully funded, annual 3-month artist residency that aligns with the college’s core values of equity, diversity, inclusion, and global awareness. The SFCC campus, which is situated on the traditional and sacred lands of the Spokane Tribe and provides services in a region that includes the traditional and sacred homelands of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation, Kalispel Tribe and Nez Perce Tribe, has made a pledge to honor the values and stewardship of all indigenous people of today. For this reason, the pilot year of the residency program will place its focus on Indigenous artists.
Applications will be open to all Indigenous artists from any visual art discipline: 2D or 3D art. Applicants need not have any formal training but should have some previous experience creating in their preferred medium. Long term, the program will grow to include all BIPOC artists in the early stages of development of their artistic careers.
