Reinaldo Gil Zambrano (RGZ), a Spokane-based printmaker and community arts leader, is organizing a large-scale collaborative project to produce what is proposed to be the world’s largest woodcut relief print. The creation of the monumental print will culminate during the 8th Annual Spokane Print Fest 2027, anchoring the three-day, free public symposium featuring lectures, demonstrations, mentorship opportunities, and hands-on engagement for artists, students, and community members.
The multi-phase work will bring together four teams of artists from Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Oregon, each led by an established printmaker and composed of regional artists, who will collaboratively design and hand-carve individual sections of the work. Spanning more than 5,000 square feet, the final print will be created by inking and pressing carved wood panels onto fabric using asphalt rollers. The resulting prints will then be assembled into a single enormous piece.
This project builds on more than a decade of RGZ’s leadership in Spokane’s printmaking ecosystem (including founding a nonprofit print studio, producing Spokane Print Fest, and organizing large-scale public print events) helping put Spokane on the map as a regional hub for printmaking.
