Grantee: EQ Records Collective

Project Title: Equipping, Educating, and Empowering Disabled and Resource-Challenged Musicians Through Mentorship with Industry Professionals
Year awarded: 2025, Round 3

EQ Records is a nonprofit record label that empowers youth through accessible music education, personalized training pathways, and professional recording and performance opportunities. With SAGA support, EQ will be implementing programs focused on serving disabled and resource-challenged youth, ages 15-18, at Lewis and Clark and Rogers High Schools, where EQ has already existing relationships.

EQ’s monthly programming will include individual assessments leading to work in songwriting, beat-making, recording, vocal training, one-on-one mentorship with professional musicians and producers, and live performance opportunities. Participants will build technical proficiency, develop original music, and gain real-world insight into the music industry.

Programming will take place at EQ’s fully accessible studio in downtown Spokane, and through local schools, special education programs, and community centers. Virtual components will be provided to address transportation and accessibility barriers. Many of EQ’s participants have limited access to traditional music education due to financial constraints, cognitive or physical disabilities, and systemic exclusion. Music can be a powerful tool for healing, expression, and empowerment, but only when access is equitable.
