In order to foster a thriving creative community where artists can make a living doing their work, Spokane Arts believes in the importance of paying artists. Too often, creatives are asked to provide time, labor, materials, or finished work for free. While most of us wouldn’t ask an electrician, CPA or nurse to provide their professional services at no cost — knowing they trained and studied to gain expertise — artists are often asked to donate their services. Many artists and creatives do choose to donate their time to causes they care deeply about, but to make a living, doing work for free should be the exception, not the rule. We humbly ask you to keep this in mind when contacting creatives on the roster, and know that you can always ask an artist to give you a cost estimate or written proposal to review. Questions? Tracy Poindexter-Canton is a mixed media artist in Spokane, Washington. Through collage, vibrancy and portraiture, Poindexter-Canton examines Black American identity and melding literary imagery with visual art. An eclectic assortment of media and materials are incorporated into her work – often including acrylic, oil pastel, ink, feathers, beads, magazine clippings, bubble wrap, scrapbook paper, nylon cord and found objects.

Adam Bodhi is a local Spokane artist and creative belonging to the LGBTQI community. He is a self-taught painter who works with mixed media using spray paint and acrylic designs. He has been working in the professional artist setting for the last 5 years. Adam has been a featured artist for Spokane Arts and Spokane Queer Space and has had shows with the Arc of Spokane and the Spokane Public Library. Adam hopes to inspire others in the community to embrace their creative dreams and follow their life passions.
Alex is a leather worker based in Spokane, WA who strives to create quality handmade leather goods that both last a life time and tell a story. Leather can truly be a living and evolving piece of functional art. Alex exclusively uses old world tools and methods paired with modern ideas to make unique and beautiful items.
Matthew A.S. Bogue was born and raised in Spokane, WA. He has been in the Graphic Design field for the past 17+ years, currently partner and creative director with a local digital design and development studio called Houdini Interactive. They specialize in Experiential Marketing, where they blend the digital world with physical installations. He has been heavily involved in the art and music scene for most of his adult life.
I’m a documentary family photographer specializing in Day in the Life sessions with families. Sessions can be anywhere from 1 hour to a full day. I apply this approach with businesses for business branding work and events as well. I do lifestyle work and portraits for families and businesses/small business owners as well.
