Opportunity: Call for Dancers — Voice of the River

Aritistic Discipline: Dance

Dance Ecology (DE) is looking for dancers for a site-specific performance piece on June 12 and 13. This piece will be part of a performance for the Voice of the River project, the Spokane/Columbia water-themed arts submission for the Global Water Dances project.  Lend your voice and your personal movement signature and style to these two creative dance pieces based on water.

The project has opportunities for dancers (amateur, professional, student, movers, some dance experience, new to dance) to perform in 2 pieces. Weekly 1.5 – 2 hour rehearsals required, depending on the piece. Separate rehearsals. Must be able to attend the majority of rehearsals (5 – 7, based on the piece). Dates/times TBD, based on dancer and choreographer availability. Info session in person at a local studio after March 31 (socially distanced).   

  • Upstream/Downstream (Up)  Open to dancers and movers with a moderate to strong dance background (any form) and some contemporary dance experience or experience with site-specific dance. Work with visiting choreographer Angelica DeLashmette (5 – 8 dancers).
  • Voice of the River (VOR)  Community dance piece. Open to all. Those with a movement practice, appreciate the power of dance or have a personal connection to nature, the Spokane River, or local environmental (water) issues encouraged to participate. Environmental leaders and scientists encouraged to join. No formal training in dance required, but all levels are encouraged. Create a modern movement choir based on project themes and learn the global piece done around the world (8+ dancers). 

To participate, submit interest to the creative director by March 31 and provide the following information:

  • Name, email, phone number, interest statement
  • General availability for rehearsals  (April 1  – June 11) and performance (June 12 or 13)
  • Dance background or movement practice/background,  video clip (completely optional)

After March 31, inquire if interested (before May 1). May do a rolling call, depends on interest/background. VOR is somewhat flexible (through May 1). Up dancers may need to be available for 2 intensives (days apart, late April), scheduled with dancer availability.

Eligibility: Opportunities for dancers (amateur, professional, student, movers). Range of experience levels (professional/experienced, some dance experience, new to dance) wanted. All ages (18+), including retired professionals, encouraged.
