Volunteering with Spokane Arts is a great way to contribute to your community. Connect with creatives and support Spokane Arts at the same time!
Events
Spokane Arts hosts events throughout the year: artist meetups, gallery receptions, neighborhood LitCrawls, performing arts showcases, trainings, workshops and more. We also host booths at farmer’s markets and community events like the Rainbow Pride Festival or Unity in the Community. Volunteering for an event or a booth is a fantastic way to meet our staff and learn about the wide range of programs, events, and opportunities we offer. Help us host First Friday events in the Chase Gallery, provide support during free poetry workshops led by the poet laureate, greet guests or take tickets at the annual Arts Awards, and so much more. A volunteer gets to know our staff, meet other artists and creatives, and help tell the story of creativity in Spokane.
Office support
Want to help but not sure how? We always need general assistance around the office: distributing fliers and posters, contributing to our e-newsletter or social media, working on special projects, and more. If you have skills you’re eager to share, don’t hesitate to let us know!
Art Installation
As part of a dynamic city arts environment, Spokane Arts is always looking for help installing, moving, and de-installing art. Volunteers may assist with gallery exhibitions, maintain Spokane Arts’ signal box art wraps, do touch-ups on murals, check on temporary art installations, etc. If you’re looking to get involved in a hands-on way, we’ve got a paintbrush or hammer waiting for you!
Serve on a jury
Spokane Arts hosts many calls for artists and creatives of all types. For each public call for artists administered by Spokane Arts, the decisions are made by a jury or committee that includes people like you. Each jury includes community members relevant to the project or neighborhood, such as residents, business owners, or community leaders, who serve on each jury alongside 1-2 art commissioners. Juries may include 3-8 jurors depending on the size of the project. Spokane Arts relies on a volunteer jurors with experience or expertise in the arts to select everything from Chase Gallery exhibits to the poet laureate to public art projects like murals, signal boxes, and sculpture, as well as to choose participating artists for programs like TheaterFest, Music Video Jams, Meet the Makers, and more.
Serve on the Spokane Arts Commission
The Spokane Arts commission functions as an advisory body to both Spokane Arts (the organization) and the city of Spokane. Its role is to promote and enhance the quality, accessibility and presence of the arts in Spokane. If you’re interested in serving on the commission, you can request the application from Spokane Arts, stop by City Hall, or download it from spokanecity.org. Applicants are interviewed by a committee of current/former art commissioners, who submit recommendations to the mayor. Select candidates are then appointed by the mayor and confirmed by city council.
