Grantee: Apostrophe Spokane

Project Title: Second Annual Exhibition
Year awarded: 2019, Round 2

Saga support will help Apostrophe hold its second annual exhibition of curated student work representing marginalized student artists in Spokane.

Apostrophe is a student lead group which exhibits LGBTQ+ students, students of color, and women student artists from six local universities and colleges, and which hosted its successful first exhibition in May of 2019. This year’s expanded exhibit will encourage and promote emerging student artists from Whitworth University, Spokane Falls Community College, Gonzaga University, Eastern Washington University, North Idaho College, and Washington State University.

The exhibition will run from April 3 to 12, 2020, in an independent gallery space to be announced before the opening date. Opening night will be part of First Friday, and the entire event will be part of Spokane Arts’ Saturate programming. In addition to the exhibition, a workshop will be taught by SFCC sculpture professor Rob McKirdie on April 6th, which will introduce attendees to working with metal. Poetry, live music, and an open mic will be featured on April 8, and a cultural food night will be presented to the public on April 10th.
