Grantee: Spectrum Singers

Project Title: 2020-2021 Concert Series: Diversity Among Us
Year awarded: 2020, Round 1

The Spokane Arts Grant Awards (SAGA) will be providing support for Spectrum’s Community Choir, the creation of a choral composition, and the production of multiple choral performances focused on diversity (once rehearsals and performances can be safely held again).

The ultimate goal of Spectrum Singers is to use music to help create a more socially just and diverse society that honors and supports one another’s identities and improves the quality of life of people of all kinds, especially those in underrepresented and disenfranchised communities. Spectrum Singers does this by: bringing together a community of diverse individuals who sing together, providing music and cultural education to those singers, building a community that supports one another, embracing each others’ identities (gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, race, disability, vocal ability, economic status, etc), and then sharing the music and our voices with our community. Spectrum believes in the power of singing to uplift and unite people from every walk of life.

SAGA will be supporting Spectrum Singers’ operations to produce their 2020-2021 Concert Series and to provide arts education and enrichment to its members and audiences. This funding will support production and marketing of two full-length concerts as well as 10-12 short community outreach performances, fund the commission of an arrangement of a Salish hymn, and support part of the funding for a part-time executive director to increase sponsorships, donor development, and community networks.
