Project Title: "Step Back Bobby Jack" Documentary
Year awarded: 2019, Round 3

SAGA support will enable CMTV to host internships for aspiring filmmakers to learn real-world skills on the set of a documentary film highlighting local basketball legend, Bobby Jack.

Spokane’s basketball community has transformed the Lilac City into Hooptown, USA. With two decades of Gonzaga basketball programs’ successes, the largest 3-on-3 basketball tournament in the world, and local basketball legends, Spokane experiences a yearly increase in revenue from its friendly relationship with basketball.

This documentary will help tell the story of basketball’s growth in Spokane and of those who helped build the foundation. The story of Bobby Jack will be a story about Spokane. The documentary will feature how he transformed the game, and helped break barriers in our community, specifically around issues of race, economics, and micro communities in Spokane. How we have grown up with basketball, faced growing pains in accepting people of all backgrounds, and have become the basketball mecca now called Hooptown, USA.

Filming will begin in the Spring of 2020 and will complete by early Summer 2020.
