In Mother Daughter, Hannah Pomante examines the tradition of quilt making and its relationship to our transitioning environments. Under the guidance of her mother, Hannah began to learn to quilt, using the process to act as a rite of passage from childhood to adulthood. The process became a way for the two to cope with their shifting lives amidst a pandemic, slowly allowing them to reconcile with these changes and become closer in the process. When making their first quilt together, the two used the collaboration as a transactional process. A mother passing her on skillset, preparing her daughter for the new environment she faces. In this body of work, you’ll find a variety of compositions, in which Hannah uses her skills in printmaking to provide nature-based textiles for her and her mother, allowing the two to create interwoven harmony—together. Please no more than 5 people, including staff in the gallery at one time. Practice social distancing. Masks are required, NO EXCEPTIONS. If you do not have a mask, let us know and we’ll supply one for you.
